LIVERPOOL EYEING RETURN TO VICTORY WAYS

Posted on February 8, 2022

Six-time European champions Liverpool are eyeing a return to winning ways in the Premier League ahead of their home clash with newly promoted club Brentford. The Reds play hosts to the West London team at Anfield on Sunday afternoon hoping to take the points on offer to close the gap on defending champions Manchester City who are at the top of the table.

Manchester City have a 13-point lead over Chelsea at the top of the Premier League log after they defeated the Blues in their latest match in the competition. Kevin De Bruyne scored the only goal of the match with 20 minutes remaining on the clock from the assist given by ex-Juventus star Joao Canceloto give the Citizens a priceless win in the title race. Manchester City are clear favourites to retain their title and the 1-0 win over Chelsea have all but knocked them out of the supposed three-horse title race.

City have 14 more points than Liverpool who are third on the league table at the moment, but the Reds can move to second spot by beating Brentfordthis weekend and also reduce the gap between them and the Citizens to 11 points with a game at hand. Their outstanding is against Leeds United at home meaning that they can close the points deficit to Manchester City to eight if they are able to beat both Leeds United and Brentford at home in their two outstanding games.

The priority for Liverpool at the moment is to get the win against the Bees and stop the run of three games without a victory in the process. The three-match winless run came on the back of winning five games in a row in the Premier League and seven games on the bounce in all competitions. Only an home win over the Bees can boost their title hopes.
