SALAH EXTENDS LEAD WITH TWO GOALS

Posted on December 16, 2021

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has extended his lead at the top of the scoring chart as far as the Premier League is concerned after his two goals helped his team to a thumping win over Merseyside rivals Everton. Egyptian international Salah scored a goal in each half to ensure that Liverpool handed a heavy defeat to the Toffees to avenge the disappointing loss suffered at Anfield.

Everton were unbeaten against Liverpool in their two Premier League meetings last season. They shared a four-goal thriller at the home of Everton in their first league meeting last season. The 2-2 draw was overshadowed by the anterior cruciate ligament injury picked up by star defender Virgil Van Dijk following the collision with opposition goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Apart from Van Dijk, Liverpool also had to deal with the bad knee injury sustained by midfielder Thiago Alcantara due to the tackle from Richarlison. Everton forward Richarlison was given a red card for his bad tackle on ex-Bayern Munich and Barcelona man Thiago. In their second meeting last season, Everton stunned Liverpool at home with a 2-0 victory.

Liverpool were able to pay Everton back in their own coin after they thrashed them 4-1 when the two teams met at Goodison Park for the first of their two Premier League matches this season.

Egyptian star Salah scored two of the four goals as pointed out earlier, while skipper Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota got the other goals. With his brace, Salah took his tally to 19 goals in 19 goals to further buttress the opinion of those who think he should be higher than the seventh position finish on this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings.

Salah has now scored 13 goals in 13 games on the Premier League scene this season and he has extended his lead over nearest player Jamie Vardy of Leicester City to four.
