Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has claimed that the squad is managing to attend training by the thinnest of margins. His comments are in accordance with manager Jurgen Klopp claiming that the fixture schedule is starting to hurt the Reds, who have to play two games a week with very little spacing in between them. Due to the involvement in the Champions League, Liverpool have to play on a Wednesday night followed by the weekend. The television commitments mean that Liverpool matches have been pushed to the early kick-off on Saturdays. This has infuriated Klopp who has many players on the treatment table.
The schedule is unlikely to relax anytime soon with Christmas approaching. This will only intensify the schedule with plenty of matches around the festive period. “I don’t really have anything to complain about. I am blessed to stay fit during this period.I hope I can hold on until the end of the season. That’s going to be very difficult, but I’m confident. It’s really just playing matches and resting at the moment. There’s not really any training because there’s not a lot of time for that,” saidWijnaldum, who has featured only in 10 league matches this season owing to injuries.
