Injury-plagued striker determined to prove his worth to Liverpool

England international Danny Ings has effectively ruled out a winter exit from Liverpool by suggesting that he still has a ‘bit part to play’ for the club.

The 25-year-old is currently looking to regain his match fitness after enduring a succession of long-term knee injuries.

Ings made his first Liverpool appearance in nearly a year in the 2-0 League Cup defeat to Leicester City in September, but he has yet to make a Premier League comeback under Jurgen Klopp. Speaking to The Times, the marksman believes he still has the mind-set to play for the Reds, thereby ruling out a potential move elsewhere.

He said: “Everywhere I have been, I have always found a way to make it happen. I have been in a lot of tough situations at previous clubs where it has been hard to break in. People from the outside looking in will probably have the assumption, ‘Oh, he’s the forgotten man’ but it has not crossed my mind at all. I still believe in myself. I still believe I can play in this team. I still feel like I have a big part to play in this football club.”

So far it’s been a season of stuttering starts and flashes of brilliance, of disruption, injuries and disappointments. Thankfully that’s all about to change, with key players returning to action (and hopefully form) as the big games pile up. It doesn’t get much bigger than Real Madrid, but we also have Chelsea too before our next issue. With last year’s slip-up in mind, we also ask whether Gerrard is a solution or one of the problems. And much much more, all for free!

We were so close! If we’d have only managed to get away wins at Hull or Crystal Palace, or even managed to hold firm against a Chelsea team that came to do everything but score… If only! Still, when we look back on the season just gone we have to be happy with the progress we’ve made, the goals we’ve scored, the players we’ve seen mature, and the attacking football on show. So many positives! We also take a look at the negatives in this issue, and see where we can correct them! Should keep you busy enough until the World Cup kicks off! YNWA
